Why Pursue The Caribbean Studies Minor?

The Caribbean Studies minor offers an ideal opportunity to broaden and deepen your understanding of the diverse cultures within the Caribbean diaspora in the USA. You will learn more of the historical connections between the Caribbean and the USA, including freedom movements such as the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights movement. The perspectives offered through the program’s cross-disciplinary concentration (Literature, Philosophy, the Social and Applied Sciences, the Performing and Visual Arts) are uniquely enriching. The program goes beyond the classroom, affording you volunteer and internship opportunities through Caribbean networks in the Washington Metropolitan Area, and bringing the Caribbean to you through interactions with the region’s world-recognized writers and cultural practitioners whom we invite to campus each year. The Study Abroad is an optional, marvelous opportunity to experience the Caribbean’s vibrant cultural landscape while studying at another world-renowned university.
